Sharks score three unanswered to down Stars

Dec 9, 2011 - 7:46 AM San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Ryane Clowe scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and the San Jose Sharks salvaged a split of a four-game homestand with a 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars.

The Sharks, who had dropped two straight and four of their last five overall, also got tallies from Logan Couture, Jamie McGinn, Brad Winchester and Torrey Mitchell.

Antti Niemi turned away 18 Stars shots.

A returning Brenden Morrow registered a goal and an assist for Dallas, which fell to 2-3-1 in its last six games. Andrew Raycroft was pulled after allowing five goals on 25 shots through 40 minutes. Richard Bachman made 11 saves in relief.

Couture and McGinn scored 15 seconds apart less than two minutes into the contest, but the Stars responded with the game's next two goals.

Mike Ribeiro put Dallas on the board at the 13:37 mark of the first period, then Morrow, who had missed the past six games after suffering an upper-body injury against Edmonton on November 21, netted a power-play goal 6:30 into the middle stanza.

San Jose pulled away by scoring three times in a span of 6:04.

"I was happy that we didn't sag, that we showed some resiliency and was able to come back and take the game over," said Sharks head coach Todd McLellan.

Back in the lineup after an 11-game absence with a broken thumb, Dallas defenseman Alex Goligoski thwarted Joe Thornton's wraparound bid. The puck, though, went right to Clowe and he fired it home before Raycroft could get across at 11:53.

Winchester's deflection made it 4-2 at 13:48 and Mitchell capped the scoring at 17:57.

"I wish we could have mustered a little bit more in the third, but they were a hungry team tonight and we have to be better than that if we want to win on the road," said Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan.
