Ducks rally late, close in on Blackhawks
Mar 21, 2013 - 6:06 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Teemu Selanne scored the winner with 4:23 to play as Anaheim rallied for a 4-2 win over Chicago in a battle between the two powerhouses of the Western Conference.Bobby Ryan had tied the game just over a minute before the Selanne goal while Peter Holland and Sheldon Souray also scored for the Ducks, who have won seven of their last eight to move three points back of Chicago for the top spot in the Western Conference. Jonas Hiller posted 22 saves and also had an assist in the win.
Jonathan Toews and Nick Leddy both scored for the Blackhawks, who had won three straight following a two-game skid that had snapped their 24-game point streak to open the season. Corey Crawford gave up three goals on 25 shots.
Trailing by a goal, the Ducks tied the game with 5:27 to play after Ryan knocked home a rebound off Ryan Getzlaf's right-wing shot on a rush.
Just over a minute later, Selanne tied the game after taking a pass from Getzlaf and beating Crawford with a wrister down low for his seventh of the season.
Souray iced the win with an empty-netter in the final minute.
"It's always big when you win, especially like this kind of game," said Selanne. "I don't think we played that well. I was a little disappointed. But it was a good win again. The third period has been our best period the whole season, and we gained two again."
Anaheim got the first goal of the game as Luca Sbisa's one-timer from the slot went wide, but it bounced off the backboards and came out to the left where Holland slammed it home 1:24 in.
Chicago, though, scored while shorthanded at the 3:52 mark of the first as Toews blocked a shot and went the other way. Skating down the right wing, he cut to the front and tucked it in past the right pad of Hiller for his 15th goal of the season.
The Blackhawks made it a 2-1 game on the power play in the second period as Leddy's slap shot from the high slot found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the year at the 11:54 mark.
"We have to keep working and keep doing the right things," said Toews. "We had a couple of breakdowns. Next thing you know, we are down a goal. We played good enough to win but made a few mistakes in the last five minutes and they made us pay for it."
