Ducks hope to extend club-record home win streak vs. Blackhawks

Mar 20, 2013 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks have not lost at home in nearly two months and are riding an 12-game winning streak at the Honda Center.

The Chicago Blackhawks know something about impressive streaks.

The Ducks look to extend their franchise-record home winning streak on Wednesday night as they host the NHL-leading Blackhawks.

Anaheim has not lost in front of its home fans since a 5-0 setback to the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 25 and it broke the previous home record set by the 2009-10 club with Monday's 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Francois Beauchemin scored twice and Ryan Getzlaf scored shorthanded while adding an assist. Getzlaf has seven goals and 13 assists over a career-high 11-game home points streak.

Viktor Fasth made 32 saves as the Ducks won the opener of a five-game homestand.

"Offensively, we are getting scoring from all our lines, and our goaltending has been unbelievable," Beauchemin said.

Emerson Etem scored his first career goal and Peter Holland also scored for the Ducks, who are also riding an 11-game point streak overall. They are 8-0-3 in that span to stay within reach of the Blackhawks.

Chicago leads the NHL with 51 points, while Anaheim is second in the Western Conference with 46 points with a game in hand.

Corey Perry will serve the final contest of his four-game ban tonight for an illegal hit versus the Minnesota Wild on March 12. He still made headlines during Monday's game as it was announced during the first intermission that he had signed an eight-year contract extension.

"Staying in Anaheim has always been my first choice," said Perry, who is second on the club with 24 points. "This is a great place to play, and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to remain here."

The move came less than two weeks after the Ducks had inked captain Getzlaf to an eight-year extension.

The Blackhawks will look to bring an end to the Ducks' streaks and have won three straight since their own record run came to an end. Chicago set an NHL record by recording a point in 24 straight games to begin the season (21-0-3) and also set a club mark by winning 11 straight overall from Feb. 15-March 6.

Both streaks came to an end with a 6-2 loss in Colorado on March 8 and Chicago was also dealt a 6-5 loss by Edmonton two days later. However, Chicago has started a new winning streak and got a 5-2 revenge win over the Avalanche on Monday.

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews both scored once and had two assists, while Jimmy Hayes and Andrew Shaw scored 57 seconds apart early in the first. Brent Seabrook also had a goal for Chicago, which was coming off an 8-1 win over the Dallas Stars.

"Keeping control of the puck is a big part of our game," Kane said. "We can score goals, that has never been a problem for us. We've been working on limiting how many goals we give up and controlling the puck."

Kane has four goals and six assists over a four-game point streak.

Ray Emery had 17 saves in the win, improving to 11-0-0 this season. However, he is still likely to return to his backup role tonight behind Corey Crawford.

Marian Hossa is day-to-day after suffering an upper body injury versus the Avalanche, while Patrick Sharp remains out with a shoulder ailment.

Chicago wraps a four-game road trip with this game and is 13-1-2 as the guest.

The Ducks were able to hand the Blackhawks a post-regulation defeat on Feb. 12 in Chicago as Perry had the winner in the second round of a shootout.

The Blackhawks have lost eight of their last 11 in Anaheim.
