Red Wings down Avs in OT

Apr 6, 2013 - 4:18 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Pavel Datsyuk scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 15.4 seconds left in overtime, and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2.

Gustav Nyquist also lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who sit seventh in the Western Conference with 43 points. Jimmy Howard made 33 saves.

Mark Olver and PA Parenteau scored for the Avalanche, who have lost three in a row. Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 28-of-31 shots.

With time winding down in overtime, Henrik Zetterberg put a shot on net that Giguere failed to cover. Datsyuk reached with his stick to poke the loose puck across the goal line.

"I jumped toward the net and followed up on the rebound," Datsyuk said.

Earlier in overtime, Giguere robbed Zetterberg on a breakaway.

"It was frustrating," Giguere said. "I thought we played a good game. They were hungry and they got a good goal in the overtime."

The Red Wings took a 1-0 lead on Datsyuk's power-play goal at the 8:27 mark of the first period. Johan Franzen carried the puck to the bottom of the left circle before finding Datsyuk in front.

Olver scored on a breakaway at the 11:36 mark to make it 1-1.

Detroit took the lead back just 13 seconds later. Colorado turned the puck over in its own zone and Nyquist skated to the right side of the net and slipped the puck between the post and Giguere's left skate.

Parenteau lit the lamp at the 6:29 mark of the third stanza to make it 2-2. Jamie McGinn's shot from along the left boards was deflected in by Parenteau.

Game Notes
