Moen, Melin lift Ducks over Red Wings to end losing streak

Jan 8, 2007 - 3:57 AM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Two unlikely sources, Travis Moen and Bjorn Melin, helped the Anaheim Ducks end their losing streak.

Moen scored only his sixth goal of the season and Melin scored in his first NHL game as the Anaheim Ducks downed the Detroit Red Wings, 4-2, to snap their four-game losing streak.

Anaheim goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made 33 saves while Ryan Getzlaf and Rob Niedermayer also scored.

Moen gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead just 1:15 into the second period when his shot from the right faceoff circle sailed over the blocker of Dominik Hasek.

Melin later gave the Ducks a 2-1 advantage at 10:36 of the second when his shot deflected off defenseman Brett Lebda's stick past Hasek.

Getzlaf scored the decisive goal 2:03 later when he blasted a slap shot past Hasek to give Anaheim a 3-1 lead. Niedermayer added an empty-net tally.

Mikael Samuelsson and Tomas Holmstrom scored the goals for Detroit, which has lost three straight games.
