Tenkrat, Bruins notch important road victory

Feb 20, 2007 - 5:45 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Petr Tenkrat came up big once again to lead the Boston Bruins to another important road victory.

Tenkrat scored a pair of goals in a wild second period and the Bruins recorded another win in Philadelphia with a 6-3 victory over the Flyers.

Fighting for their playoff lives, the Bruins need wins, especially on their seven-game road trip, and Tenkrat helped them get another one.

"We need points. We're not in the mix and we have to find ways to get points," Boston coach Dave Lewis said. "The guys understand that's the most important thing right now. It's three games in four nights and our guys are going to have to find ways to get some rest and get ready for the next game. We have to keep things short and simple."

Boston entered this game in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, eight points behind Toronto for the eighth and final playoff spot. Tenkrat scored in the eighth round of the shootout in Saturday's 4-3 victory over Buffalo and got going in the second period against Philadelphia with the game tied at 2-2.

His first tally with 8:43 left in the session, a wrist shot from the right circle, beat Antero Niittymaki. Just over four minutes later he struck again, scoring on a rebound of a shot by Phil Kessel to make it 4-2.

"In the last game against Buffalo I picked up some new confidence," Tenkrat said. "I felt pretty good today and it was unbelievable how I scored. I'm just very happy about how I could help the team win tonight and it was a very important win."

"We were just too soft on the puck," Flyers coach John Stevens said. "When we turned pucks over in the neutral zone we couldn't generate anything offensively."

Brandon Bochenski and Marc Savard added goals in the third period and Tim Thomas made 30 saves for the Bruins, who have won four of their last five.

Jeff Carter, Kyle Calder, and Scottie Upshall scored for the Flyers. Upshall has scored in both games he has played for Philadelphia since being acquired Thursday in the deal that sent captain Peter Forsberg to Nashville.

"I am playing with some great guys right now," Upshall said. "I had four years in Nashville, where due to injuries and them signing some great hockey players, I haven't had a chance to be able to do what I can. I just want to come in here and be a good fit for these guys. There are some great hockey players in this room and I am enjoying my time so far."

Philadelphia scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Boston's P.J. Axelson tied the game 2-2 with a tally at the 7:42 mark.

"I think we came back quick and that helped us," Axelson said. "We got to 2-2 and then 3-2 fairly quick and we played a pretty solid game after that. The power play was good and so was the penalty kill. "This is one of the games that we had to have.

"We really had to win this game and it was great that we did. We have another huge game and it seems like we have a huge game coming up every time. It is certainly fun. It's never bad to be in tight games that's for sure."
