Final
Perry, Ducks down Wild
Dec 12, 2013 - 6:43 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Perry potted a goal for the seventh straight game and the Anaheim Ducks continued their best home start in franchise history with a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday at Honda Center.Alex Grant and Perry each scored in the second, while Jonas Hiller stopped 23 shots for the Ducks, who are the only team in the NHL without a home regulation loss this season (12-0-2).
Jason Pominville potted a power-play goal in the third, while Josh Harding allowed both goals on 31 shots for the Wild, who have lost two of their last three games.
After a scoreless opening period, Grant gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead 2:37 into the second when he skated down the right wing and wristed a shot from just outside the faceoff dot that beat Harding to the short-side.
"I came down the wing and saw him (Harding) looking for the pass," Grant said of his goal. "I wanted to try and catch him cheating."
The Ducks doubled their lead later in the frame when Hampus Linholm's one- timer from the high slot took a hard carom off the end boards and Perry swatted the puck into the net from low left side to make it 2-0 at 13:27.
Minnesota cut the margin in half on the power play early in the third when Pominville secured a rebound in front and backhanded the disc into the back of the net to make it 2-1 at 3:48.
Minnesota's Charlie Coyle charged in on a breakaway near the midpoint of the third, but Hiller came up with a left pad save to deny the chance and keep the Ducks in front.
"He's a big guy and he spread out pretty good," Coyle said of Hiller. "I got too in-tight. I wish I had that one back."
Game Notes
Perry's goal streak is the third longest in Ducks history ... Anaheim center Ryan Getzlaf notched an assist to extend his point streak to 13 games ...
