Oilers upend Ducks
Apr 7, 2014 - 3:19 AM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Viktor Fasth made 34 saves and the Edmonton Oilers used a big second period to upend the Pacific Division-leading Anaheim Ducks, 4-2, at Rexall Place on Sunday night.Justin Schultz, Taylor Hall and David Perron all scored in the second and Jordan Eberle added an empty-netter for the Oilers, who sit at the bottom of the Western Conference but opened their season-ending four-game homestand with a second consecutive victory.
"The guys fought for everything for me today," Fasth said.
Jonas Hiller yielded three goals on 27 shots in the Ducks' second straight loss. Anaheim still has a one-point edge for the division lead and has a game- in-hand over the second-place San Jose Sharks with four to play.
It took 80 seconds for the Ducks to get on the board.
A turnover at the blueline resulted in a 2-on-1 that saw Jakob Silfverberg credited with a goal after Fasth saved his shot before Sam Gagner's skate redirected it into the back of his own net.
The Oilers answered three times in a fight-filled middle stanza.
Hall slid one in from the right doorstep while on the man advantage at 6:17, and seconds after a 4-on-4 ended with Anaheim's Kyle Palmieri getting out of the box, Perron scored on a wrister from the left circle at the 9:21 mark.
With 3:22 to go, Schultz tapped in a rebound from the same spot where Hall scored for what turned into the game-winner.
Corey Perry scored on the power play 25 seconds into the third period, but Fasth made 11 saves the rest of the frame prior to Eberle sealing it in the final seconds.
"You can't always fall behind and try and make a comeback. We need to get the early lead and keep it," Ducks defenseman Stephane Robidas said.
