Sharks end 5-game skid in OT

Nov 13, 2013 - 5:38 AM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Stuart scored at 1:13 of overtime to send the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

In the extra session, Joe Thornton teed up a slap shot from the top of the right circle that hit off Stuart, who was in front of the net, and went past Reto Berra for the win.

Patrick Marleau had a goal and an assist while Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who snapped a five-game losing streak. Alex Stalock stopped 11 shots in the win.

"I liked that we only gave up 13 shots but it's not good that we let them get back into the game in the third," said San Jose head coach Todd McLellan. "But if you look at the whole guy, I thought it was a good effort. It would have been nice to have a few more goals, but the defense was sound."

Kris Russell and Mike Cammalleri each scored for the Flames, who have dropped their past four games. Berra made 32 saves in the loss.

"We're pretty lucky as a coaching staff because we're coaching a great bunch of guys," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "Those guys want to do well and most of the time and in many occasions we get the best out of our guys."

Calgary had just six shots through the first two periods and trailed, 2-0, but tied the game with a pair of goals in the final frame.

The first came at 6:51 on the power play as a right circle faceoff win saw the puck come back to the right point for Russell, who skated over to the high slot and blasted home a slap shot for his third of the year.

Calgary tied the game 3 1/2 minutes later as Chris Butler's slap shot from the left wing was stopped, but Cammalleri was in the slot to backhand home the rebound.

The Sharks scored just 1:32 in on a shot from Couture at the left circle off a good sequence in the corner boards.

Skating on the power play, San Jose made it a 2-0 game with 55.3 seconds left in the opening period on a wrister from Marleau at the top of the left circle with traffic in front.
