Oilers edge Bruins in lengthy SO
Feb 19, 2015 - 6:43 AM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Martin Marincin scored in the 12th round of the shootout to lead the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.Neither side had a skater score a goal until Marincin, who skated in and went back and forth with the puck before letting it slide between the pads of Tuukka Rask for the win.
Teddy Purcell had a goal and an assist, while Nail Yakupov and Ryan Nugent- Hopkins also scored for the Oilers, who snapped a two-game slide. Ben Scrivens stopped 38 shots in the win.
"You just try and stop each shot," Scrivens said of the lengthy shootout. "You just try and stay big, stay patient, watch the puck and give yourself a chance to stop it."
Reilly Smith, Loui Eriksson and David Pastrnak each had a goal for the Bruins, who have lost their last five games.
"I think there is a lot of frustration right now," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "We have to find a way to overcome some things (and) be professionals."
Yakupov scored on a one-timer from the slot 4:29 into the first period to get the Oilers on the board, then the team took a 2-0 lead at 15:53 on the power play as Nugent-Hopkins scored on a one-timer from the right circle.
Boston got on the board late in the first period with a power-play goal as Dougie Hamilton's shot from the high slot was redirected in by Eriksson with just 19.1 seconds showing.
Edmonton struck again on the power play nine minutes into the second on Purcell's wrister from the slot for a 3-1 lead.
The Bruins, though, scored at 14:17 of the second as Smith finished off a rebound down low, and the team tied the game 1:35 later as Pastrnak deflected a Zdeno Chara shot into the net.

Edmonton hosts Minnesota on Friday ... Boston continues its five-game road trip in St. Louis on Friday ... Edmonton went 2-for-4 on the power play, while Boston scored on its only man advantage.
