Final
Senators edge Sabres
Feb 11, 2015 - 4:43 AM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Milan Michalek scored the game-winning goal just past the midway mark of the third period, sending the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.Michalek jammed home a rebound off a shot by Patrick Wiercioch to give Ottawa the lead with 7:45 to play. Michalek returned to the lineup after missing Ottawa's 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Erik Karlsson also lit the lamp for the Senators, who snapped a three-game skid. Robin Lehner made 35 saves.
"We got the win," said Senators coach Dave Cameron. "We've been playing reasonably well and it's good to get the win. We found a way to win a hockey game on the road and that's the bottom line."
Tyler Myers scored the lone goal for the Sabres, who have dropped two straight. Jhonas Enroth stopped 24-of-26 shots.
The Senators took a 1-0 lead on Karlsson's power-play goal at 12:18 of the first period. His blast from the point changed direction and got past Enroth.
Buffalo's Mike Weber appeared to tie the game with 3:52 left in the middle stanza, when his shot from the left circle beat Lehner. The refs immediately called off the goal because Marcus Foligno interfered with the goaltender.
"I didn't like it. I thought it was a goal," said Sabres coach Ted Nolan. "It didn't look like he was in the crease. He was on the side of the net, but he didn't look like he was on the side of the crease. The way the year's going, those are the type of calls you're going to get.
"If [Weber's] goal counts, it's a whole different game. I thought the momentum was starting to switch. It felt like this was the first time we outplayed a team and didn't get win."
Lehner made 21 saves in the second to preserve Ottawa's 1-0 lead.
The Sabres officially tied things up at 5:08 of the third when Myers' shot from the point got past Lehner. Buffalo forward Zemgus Girgensons screened Lehner on the power-play goal.
Game Notes
Senators forward Bobby Ryan (lower body) was scratched in favor of Jean- Gabriel Pageau ... Ottawa went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Buffalo went 1-for-4.
