Michalek fuels Senators' rout of Oilers

Feb 15, 2015 - 5:46 AM Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Ottawa Senators ended their recent home struggles with a 7-2 rout of the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

Milan Michalek scored two goals and added an assist for the Senators, who snapped a three-game losing streak at Canadian Tire Centre. Kyle Turris, Mike Hoffman and Alex Chiasson each had a goal and one assist as Ottawa won for just the second time in its last six games overall.

"It's good. Some other guys scored as well, and hopefully we can get some confidence and get on some kind of a roll right now," said Michalek.

Derek Roy and Mark Fayne supplied the goals for Edmonton, which fell to 2-3-0 on its six-game road trip.

"It was too many odd-man rushes and not enough sustained offensive-zone time. That's a pretty bad recipe," said Oilers defenseman Andrew Ference.

Cody Ceci and Turris scored 16 seconds apart in the opening minute of the second period to put Ottawa up 3-1 and prompt a goaltending change. Richard Bachman replaced Viktor Fasth, who stopped 12 shots. Bachman gave up four goals on 27 shots in relief.

The Oilers closed within 3-2 at 3:06 of the second when Fayne ended a 52-game goal drought on a slap shot from the point, but Michalek buried a feed from Turris on a perfectly executed 2-on-1 rush 38 seconds later.

Chiasson scored off Erik Condra's behind-the-net pass to make it 5-2 with 1:16 remaining in the second.

Hoffman and David Legwand notched goals 1:52 apart late in the third period. Legwand's tally came on a power play.

Michalek opened the scoring on a man advantage 7:18 into the contest. Roy, who is an Ottawa native, tied it with 4:43 left in the first period.
