Daniel Sedin powers Canucks past Senators in OT
Nov 12, 2014 - 6:43 AM Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Daniel Sedin netted the game-winning goal with 55 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.Henrik Sedin made a move around a defender and sent a cross-ice feed from the left circle to Daniel Sedin, who blasted a sharp-angle one-timer past the glove of Craig Anderson from just above the goal line for the win.
Alexandre Burrows, Shawn Matthias and Kevin Bieksa also scored and Henrik Sedin finished with two assists for the Canucks, who have won four of their last five.
"We're not relying on one or two lines to win and we're playing good hockey, everyone is involved," said Bieksa.
Ryan Miller made 21 saves in the win.
Kyle Turris supplied a goal and a helper and Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman both lit the lamp for Ottawa, which got 33 saves from Anderson in its third straight loss.
"I thought (Anderson) was very good in the net," Ottawa head coach Paul MacLean said. "Although we aren't really pleased with the effort, we are pleased with the point we were able to get."
Vancouver took a 3-2 lead 5:36 into the third period after Bieksa's blast from the right point deflected off an Ottawa player in front and past Anderson.
Stone entered the offensive zone up the middle and dropped a pass back to Kyle Turris. Miller made a glove save on Turris, but Stone whacked the rebound past the Vancouver netminder for a 3-3 contest at 8:42 to send the game into overtime.
Ottawa appeared to break the scoreless deadlock with under a minute to play in the opening stanza after the puck went into the net, but Chris Neil was called for hooking a defender in front of the cage.
Vancouver struck first 6:13 into the second. Linden Vey shoveled the puck up the boards into the offensive zone. Matthias tracked it down, barreled in on net and capped the sequence by slipping the puck through Anderson's legs.
Hoffman fired home the rebound of Curtis Lazar's shot midway through the second for a 1-1 score.
Nick Bonino slipped a pass across the ice to Burrows, who tapped the puck in for a 2-1 lead with 3:43 remaining in the second. Just over a minute later, Turris tied the game back up after snapping a shot past Miller in close.
