Hungry Blues rip reeling Leafs

Oshie, Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz each had a goal and an assist as the St. Louis Blues routed the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-1 on Saturday night.St. Louis, which outshot Toronto 44-24, raced out to a 3-0 lead with a trio of goals in the opening period and were up 5-0 heading into the third, where it coasted to the easy win.
David Backes, Paul Stastny and Chris Butler also found the back of the net, while Alexander Steen and Jori Lehtera each posted three assists apiece for the Blues, who had dropped four of their last six games coming in.
"I like the way we played today. I thought we kept our foot on the gas the whole game," St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock said.
Brian Elliott made 23 saves in the triumph.
David Booth netted the lone goal for Toronto, which has lost four of its last five contests.
"They beat us all over the ice, from beginning to end," Leafs coach Peter Horachek said.
Jonathan Bernier stopped 14-of-17 shots before being pulled after a period of play. James Reimer finished the game and made 24 saves over the final two stanzas.
All three of St. Louis' first period goals came in the final five-plus minutes.
Schwartz found the back of the net with a right circle snap shot at 14:49, Oshie controlled a Steen pass from the left circle with a skate and backhanded it home at 16:30 and Tarasenko wristed one home with 15 seconds to go in the period.
Butler recorded a shorthanded goal midway through the second and Stastny scored on the power play over two minutes later for the Blues' 5-0 margin.
Booth finally got the Leafs on the board 2:59 into the third and Backes tipped one home to cap the scoring at the 10:36 mark.
Game Notes
The Blues outshot Toronto 17-5 in the first period and 12-7 in the second ... St. Louis was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Toronto finished 0-for-5 ... Steen has 35 assists on the season.
