Quick, Kings look to snap two-game skid against Thrashers
Feb 16, 2009 - 2:54 PM Atlanta (20-32-5) at Los Angeles (24-22-8), 10:30 p.m. ESTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Rookie goaltender Jonathan Quick has been stellar for the Los Angeles Kings. If he intends to end their mild skid, he will have to stymie a suddenly dangerous offensive club.
Quick likely will start in goal for the 11th straight game Monday when the Kings host the red-hot Atlanta Thrashers.
The 23-year-old Quick has surrendered two goals in each of Los Angeles' last two games - both losses - but he has not received much offensive help. The Kings have scored over three goals just once in their last seven games.
Los Angeles' current swoon follows a four-game winning streak that Quick sparked by notching his third career shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators on February 3.
Atlanta, which has dropped seven of 10, is coming off its best offensive performance of the season in an 8-4 triumph over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
Captain Ilya Kovalchuk recorded his 11th career hat trick and added an assist as the Thrashers scored four times in the second period.
Bryan Little and Colin Stuart both scored and set up a goal apiece and Rich Peverley, Colby Armstrong and defenseman Niclas Havelid also tallied for Atlanta, which has scored six or more goals four times this season.
