Sedin twins lead Canucks past Senators

Feb 20, 2009 - 3:07 AM OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Henrik Sedin had a goal and three assists and twin brother Daniel Sedin registered a goal and an assist as the Vancouver Canucks jumped out to an early four-goal lead before holding off the Ottawa Senators, 4-2, on Thursday.

Alexandre Burrows scored and recorded a pair of assists and Kevin Bieksa also tallied for the Canucks, who have won seven of their last eight games.

Roberto Luongo made 25 saves as Vancouver swept the two-game season series with Ottawa.

Dany Heatley and Mike Fisher scored and Antoine Vermette assisted on both goals for the Senators, who have lost two straight following a season-high five-game winning streak.

Vancouver used three first-period tallies to jump in front early and snap the personal-three game winning streak of rookie goaltender Brian Elliott.

Burrows scored on an assist from Henrik Sedin 3:14 into the contest then returned the favor a little over midway through the first period on Henrik Sedin's 12th of the season.

A power-play goal from Bieksa made the lead 3-0 with 4:37 to go in the opening period and the Canucks cruised from there.

Daniel Sedin increased the bulge to four with his team-leading 25th goal of the season before Ottawa netted a pair of goals to cut the deficit in half entering the third.

Pavol Demitra concluded the scoring with an empty-net goal with 12 seconds left in the contest, preventing the Senators from capturing a point for the first time in seven games.

Elliott made 19 saves for Ottawa.
