Reinprecht powers Coyotes past Bruins

Mar 6, 2009 - 3:40 AM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Steve Reinprecht scored to snap a tie midway through the second period as the Phoenix Coyotes recorded a 2-1 triumph over the Boston Bruins on Thursday.

Acquired prior to the trade deadline, Scottie Upshall also scored and Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 25 shots as Phoenix snapped a three-game losing streak.

"A lot of energy and there is an excitement of changing teams," captain Shane Doan said. "A lot of new guys playing with that kind of enthusiasm - and that is something we have to have."

Chuck Kobasew scored and All-Star Tim Thomas finished with 16 saves for Boston, which fell to 3-6-3 in its last 12 games after a torrid 34-5-3 stretch.

"It is very frustrating," Bruins center Patrice Bergeron said. "It is not even about who we are playing. It is about us right now, figure out what is going on, bare down and win battles."

Reinprecht snapped a tie just 7:52 into the second period by tucking the puck past Thomas for his 11th goal of the season.

"We got a turnover in the neutral zone and we were able to get a messed up 3-on-2 out of it," Reinprecht said. "(Nigel) Dawes made a great play, faked a shot, showed great patience and then found me behind everybody - the whole goal was created by him."

The Coyotes then survived a feverish flurry by the Bruins in the third period.

"We knew they would," Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky said. "First of all, they are a great team with a lot of skill over there, a lot of size, energy, well coached - there is a reason they are where they are right now so as a group we knew they were going to come at us.

"I thought we held our composure pretty well and it was a good road win for us."

After Kobasew opened the scoring seven minutes into first period, Upshall leveled the contest nearly five minutes later with a power-play tally.

The Coyotes on Wednesday acquired Upshall and a 2011 second-round draft pick from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange left wing Daniel Carcillo.

"A big goal, not only for myself but for the team," Upshall said. "I felt good out there, a familiar building. I came in here Tuesday night and played and I'm excited about the opportunity here and finishing off the season strong."

Boston coach Claude Julien knew Upshall's goal was pivotal.

"As soon as they got that power-play goal, our game seemed to fall apart for the rest of the period and in the second," he said. "Not good enough, we just can't seem to finish our plays right now."
