Guerin's four goals give Blues first preseason win

Sep 25, 2006 - 1:55 AM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Bill Guerin scored four goals and added an assist to help the St. Louis Blues earn their first preseason win, a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Petr Cajanek added a goal and three assists for St. Louis, which beat Atlanta in the second game of a home-and-home series. The Thrashers edged the Blues, 1-0, on Saturday, as a power-play goal by Ilya Kovalchuk in the first period was the only tally of the night.

Guerin scored his first three goals on power plays, while his fourth was an empty-netter with 78 seconds left in the third session. The right wing spent his last three seasons with Dallas before signing with St. Louis as a free agent in July.

The Blues scored on four of their six power plays while holding the Thrashers to 1-for-6 on man-advantage opportunities.

St. Louis goaltender Manny Legace stopped 27 shots, including all nine he faced in the third period.

Defenseman Greg de Vries scored a power-play goal in the second period to give the Thrashers a 2-1 lead. He also had a first-period assist.

Netminder Fred Brathwaite allowed four goals on 26 shots before being pulled with just over a minute left and Atlanta down by a goal.
