Wild go for seventh straight road win
Dec 31, 2006 - 5:22 PM Anaheim (28-6-6) at Minnesota (19-17-2) 6:00 pm ESTST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Wild will try to extend their home winning streak to seven games when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
The Wild have been superb at home in posting a 15-3-1 record. However, if they extend that streak, they will have to beat the Ducks, whose 62 points are the most in the NHL.
Minnesota won its sixth straight game at home with a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. Wes Walz scored the controversial game-winner when the puck glanced off him into the net.
Brian Rolston had two goals and Pavol Demitra added a tally for the Wild, who went 3-for-11 on the power play.
Despite their impressive 28-6-6 start to the season, the Ducks have lost two of their last three games, including a 4-2 decision to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. Teemu Selanne scored twice and backup goaltender Michael Wall had 23 saves.
Wall was pressed into service when Jean-Sebastien Giguere went down with a groin injury and missed Friday's game. Ilya Bryzgalov is on injured reserve because of a slight groin strain.
