Senators hope to extend four-game winning streak

Jan 16, 2007 - 3:30 PM Washington (19-19-7) at Ottawa (26-19-2) 7:30 pm EST

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- After posting the Eastern Conference's best record last season, the Ottawa Senators are again hitting on all cylinders.

Daniel Alfredsson looks to lead the Senators to their fifth consecutive victory and 10th in 12 contests when they host the Washington Capitals in their third meeting of the season.

Ottawa recorded 52 wins and 113 points to finish with the best record in the East by one point over the eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes. However, the Senators dropped 11 of their first 17 games this season before turning things around.

Coming off a career-high 103-point campaign last season, Alfredsson has 12 points in his last four contests to raise his season total to 45.

Ottawa is coming off Saturday's 8-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Alfredsson had a goal and four assists and Chris Kelly added a tally and set up three others for the Senators, who tied a season high in goals.

Washington followed its recent three-game winning streak by surrendering 12 goals in back-to-back losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers.

The Capitals were outshot, 54-17, in Saturday's 7-3 loss to Florida. Alexander Semin scored his 25th goal, Chris Clark had his 16th and Matt Pettinger added a shorthanded tally.

Washington benefited from a pair of goals by Clark to defeat Ottawa for the second time in as many meetings this season, with a 6-2 triumph on December 6.
