Canucks hope to gain ground in tough Northwest Division

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- All-Star Roberto Luongo certainly has made a difference for the Vancouver Canucks.

Locked in a tie with the rival Calgary Flames atop the Northwest Division, the Canucks hope to start the second half of the season on a winning note Friday when they host the Los Angeles Kings.

Acquired in an offseason trade with Florida, Luongo has been outstanding in his first campaign in Vancouver, going 27-16-1 with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

The Western Conference's starting goaltender in Wednesday's All-Star Game, Luongo has led the Canucks to a tie for first place with Calgary (26-17-4). Vancouver has won nine of its last 11 games.

Vancouver figures to continue its scorching pace against Los Angeles, which owns the worst record in the West and the second-worst mark in the league. The Kings currently are mired in a seven-game losing streak.
