Lightning aim to extend franchise-record road streak

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning have been road warriors this season.

The Lightning look to extend their franchise-record six-game road winning streak Thursday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes in a Southeast Division showdown.

Breaking the franchise record of five straight road wins set February 23-March 6, 2004, Tampa Bay posted a 4-3 shootout triumph over Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Johan Holmqvist stopped the only two shots he faced in the shootout as the Lightning improved to 11-3 against the Atlantic Division this season.

With the win, Tampa Bay jumped into a tie for seventh place in the Eastern Conference thanks to Holmqvist, who made 29 saves in regulation and now has won six of his last eight starts.

The Lightning went 9-4-0 in January, including an impressive 7-2-0 on the road.

The Hurricanes have lost four of their last five contests and have dropped four of their last five games here.

Reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner Cam Ward made 34 saves Tuesday but could not help Carolina avoid a 4-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
