Getzlaf returns to lead Ducks

Feb 15, 2010 - 4:25 AM EDMONTON, Alberta(AP) -- Ryan Getzlaf figures he did more than enough Sunday to prove he should keep his spot with Team Canada in the Olympics.

"In my mind, it's pretty made up. Obviously, I would like to be there," the Anaheim star after scoring twice and adding two assists in his first game back from a sprained left ankle to help the Ducks beat Edmonton 7-3.

Getzlaf said he would be in contact with Team Canada executive director Steve Yzerman on Sunday night and again Monday morning.

"I haven't had to make many decisions like this," Getzlaf said. "Obviously, this one I have to pull back and make sure I'm doing what's right for (the Ducks) and myself as well. If my ankle's fine in the morning, it won't be a hard decision for me."

Saku Koivu, Corey Perry, Scott Niedermayer, George Parros and Bobby Ryan also scored for Anaheim, which trails Calgary by two points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference as the NHL heads into the Olympic break.

Ryan Potulny, Ethan Moreau and Lubomir Visnovsky scored for the NHL-worst Oilers.

Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said Getzlaf looked ready for the Olympics.

"He's a very skilled player," Carlyle said. "There's a reason he was selected to Team Canada. He went out and proved he's quite capable of playing to a high level, and he's to be commended. To think he would play in this game after reviewing the injury ... it's just amazing. It was all up to him."

Philadelphia forward Jeff Carter is in Vancouver in case Getzlaf isn't cleared to play for Canada.

"We haven't talked yet," Getzlaf said. "His situation, it's a tough one and so is mine. We're good friends and I'm sure it'll be perfectly fine no matter how it turns out."

Getzlaf banged a rebound past Jeff Deslauriers off a scramble on a power play at 5:27 of the third period, then added another with the man advantage off a pass from Niedermayer with 3:02 left.

Jonas Hiller turned aside 25 shots for the Ducks, while Deslauriers made 39 saves, stopping 17 in the first 20 minutes.

NOTES: The Ducks were 4 for 11 on the power play, while the Oilers were 1 for 5. ... Anaheim beat Edmonton 3-2 in Anaheim on Wednesday night to extend its home winning streak to a franchise-record 11 games. ... Deslauriers started his eighth straight game and 30 of 39 since the team lost Nikolai Khabibulin (back) on Nov. 18. ... The 10 players going to the Olympics, two Oilers and eight Ducks, were honored before the game.
