Red Wings aim to continue dominance of Blackhawks

Feb 27, 2007 - 4:43 PM Detroit (39-16-8) at Chicago (23-30-9) 8:30 pm EST

CHICAGO (Ticker) - Looking to snap out of a slump, the Detroit Red Wings may have just the right opponent in the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Red Wings try to rebound from two straight losses when they face the Blackhawks in the first of a home-and-home series Tuesday. The rematch between the long-time rivals is Friday in Detroit.

Detroit, which trails league-leading Nashville by two points in the Central Division, has beaten Chicago 12 times in the last 13 meetings, holding a 55-30 scoring edge during that span.

However, the Red Wings have dropped their last two games, both in overtime. They are coming off Saturday's 4-3 loss to Nashville in which they wasted a hat trick by Tomas Holmstrom.

Right wing Henrik Zetterberg has a seven-game points streak with nine goals and seven assists. He has four goals and eight points in four contests against Chicago this season.

The Blackhawks snapped a five-game skid with a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday as Martin Havlat had a goal and two assists.

Havlat has nine goals and seven assists in his last 12 games. However, the right wing has just one goal in three contests against the Red Wings.

On Monday, the Red Wings and Blackhawks were involved in a three-way trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. Chicago acquired left wing Kyle Calder for defenseman Lasse Kukkonen and a 2007 third-round pick, then moved Calder to Detroit for center Jason Williams.
