Canucks conclude road trip against Blues

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks aim to end their road trip on a positive note against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

The Canucks are 19-3-4 since Christmas and lead the very competitive Northwest Division. They have a two-point cushion over the Minnesota Wild and lead the Calgary Flames by four.

One day before the NHL trade deadline, the Canucks on Monday acquired defenseman Brent Sopel from the Los Angeles Kings and center Bryan Smolinski from the Chicago Blackhawks.

Vancouver had a six-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Dallas Stars on Sunday. Taylor Pyatt scored and Roberto Luongo made 34 saves for the Canucks.

Pyatt's career-high 15th tally snapped a seven-game goalless streak. Luongo is 5-0-1 in his last six starts with just 12 goals allowed.

Luongo, 35-18-3 this season, has the second-most wins in the league. He is 2-0 with a 1.84 goals-against average in two starts against St. Louis.

The Blues had a four-game winning streak snapped in a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. Lee Stempniak scored for St. Louis, which went 0-for-10 on the power play.

Before Sunday's loss, the Blues shipped center Keith Tkachuk to the Atlanta Thrashers for center Glen Metropolit and three draft picks.
