Flames score 5 straight goals, beat Devils 5-3

Mar 6, 2010 - 6:39 AM CALGARY, Alberta(AP) -- The Calgary Flames found their scoring touch - at the expense of Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils.

Daymond Langkow, Curtis Glencross and Eric Nystrom scored second-period goals, and Miikka Kiprusoff made 22 saves in Calgary's 5-3 victory Friday night.

Matt Stajan and David Moss scored in the third period for the Flames, who scored five straight goals after U.S. Olympic star Zach Parise opened the scoring for New Jersey in the first period.

"For whatever reason, we've struggled at home to score goals. It was nice to get five tonight," Langkow said. "That's the way we've got to play every night, with that same emotion and intensity."

Calgary entered the night 29th in the NHL in goals, ahead of only Boston.

"Obviously you're thinking about it. Especially when you're losing," Langkow said. "You feel like you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing out there and then maybe you change your game a little bit and it just gets worse."

Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk scored in the third for the Devils, and Brodeur finished with 20 saves.

"I was fighting it tonight. They were able to pick up some garbage goals," Brodeur said. "It doesn't happen often but lately, the pucks definitely not hitting me. That last goal, Stajan fans on it, it still goes through everything and goes through my legs."

Early in the second period, Langkow started the Calgary scoring spree with his first goal in 22 games and the Flames' first in 107 minutes.

Flames winger Chris Higgins showed his strength controlling the puck deep in the Devils end, fending off Travis Zajac before centering to Langkow in the slot. With his back to the net, Langkow slid a backhander through Brodeur's pad.

A few minutes later, Glencross gave Calgary the lead on a short-handed breakaway, whipping the puck into the top corner over Brodeur's glove.

Glencross also had a hand in the third goal with a heavy check on defenseman Andy Greene that knocked the puck loose. Nystrom drove hard across the top of the crease, nearly mishandling the puck before swatting it past Brodeur.

With the victory, Calgary remained a point behind Detroit for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Flames won for just the fourth time in their last 13 home games.

New Jersey, 2-9-1 in its last 12 road games, will complete a three-game trip Sunday night in Edmonton.

"It's disappointing," Devils coach Jacques Lemaire said. "It's a game in which we knew how they would play. That is their game. A hard-working team and you have to work harder, that's all."

NOTES: Parise has 30 goals this season. ... Calgary is 9-2-1 when Langkow scores.
