Maple Leafs continue battle for eighth playoff spot in East

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs hope to move into the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference on Tuesday when they face the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Maple Leafs are one point behind Montreal (41-32-6), which hosts Boston on Tuesday. They are three points behind Tampa Bay (43-32-4).

Toronto looked fatigued on Sunday when it fell to the New York Rangers, 7-2. It was the fourth game in six nights for Toronto.

The Maple Leafs have won their last seven games at Air Canada Centre - the longest home streak since they won eight in a row during the 2002-03 season.

The Flyers, who have the fewest points in the NHL, have dropped six of their last seven games, including a 6-4 setback to the Rangers on Saturday.

Philadelphia needs six points to avoid setting a franchise record for the fewest in a season. The 1969-70 team had 58 points in the club's third season in the league.
