Hasek leads Red Wings to victory over Blue Jackets

Apr 4, 2007 - 4:39 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Dominik Hasek must wish he could play against the Columbus Blue Jackets every night.

Hasek stopped all 35 shots he faced and recorded his 76th career shutout to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-0 victory over the Blue Jackets and a sweep of their home-and-home series.

Hasek, who recorded his eighth shutout of the season, made 31 saves during a 4-1 victory over Columbus (32-41-7) on Sunday.

"Dom was really good (tonight)," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "That's the element that we didn't have last year - the ability to win when your team isn't good or you need a huge save."

Kyle Calder scored the eventual game winner 16 seconds into the third period, as he stole the puck from defenseman Ron Hainsey and slid it past the left side of goaltender Fredrik Norrena.

"I took the guy out (Hainsey) and the puck was lying there and (Sergei) Fedorov came over to play and I was able to get around him and slide it underneath him. He didn't see me coming. I just hit him and the puck was lying there. I saw him (Fedorov) coming across and I knew I just had to get it around his stick."

Todd Bertuzzi and Kris Draper each added tallies in the third period for Detroit (49-19-12), which was 0-for-6 on the power play.

"From our point of view, it was not the best game," Hasek said. "We really struggled for two periods. In the third period, we scored a goal and it really changed the momentum."

Norrena made 20 saves for the Blue Jackets, who were also 0-for-6 with the extra skater. They have dropped four consecutive contests.

"It is what it is," Hainsey said. "We couldn't score in the first two and then the start of the third period cost us the game."
