Wild try to solve Ducks in Game Two

Apr 13, 2007 - 1:44 PM Minnesota at Anaheim 10:30 pm EDT Western Conference quarterfinals Ducks lead series, 1-0

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Wild look avoid their sixth consecutive playoff loss against the Anaheim Ducks when the teams meet in Game Two of their Western Conference quarterfinal series on Friday.

Anaheim skated to a 2-1 victory in Wednesday's series opener. Dustin Penner snapped a 1-1 tie with 5:20 remaining in the third period.

The goal provided the first bit of controversy in the series, as Wild players argued that the goal should have been disallowed.

Penner got a step ahead of defenseman Kim Johnsson on the left side and got off a shot that was stopped by netminder Niklas Backstrom. But Johnsson's momentum carried him into Backstrom, who was knocked into his own net. After a scramble in front of the goal, Penner knocked the loose puck into the net.

"That's a goal that shouldn't be on the board," said Backstrom, who was appearing in his first career playoff game. "I watched the replay and I was sure it was under me and nobody saw the puck. Of course you're going to get the puck out from a goalie if you slash at it with your sticks."

Teemu Selanne also scored for the Ducks and tied Paul Kariya's franchise record for career postseason points at 29. Selanne has a franchise-high 16 playoff tallies.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 24 saves for Anaheim. He started in place of Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who rejoined the team Tuesday after being away since April 4 following the birth of his son, who has been undergoing tests for an eye condition. Giguere's status for Friday's game is uncertain.

Pavol Demitra tallied his 19th postseason goal for Minnesota, which was swept by Anaheim in the 2003 Western Conference finals.
