Ribeiro powers Stars over Blackhawks
Jan 6, 2011 - 7:05 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Mike Ribeiro posted a pair of power-play goals, including the deciding score just after the midway point of the third period, as Dallas downed Chicago, 4-2, at United Center.Brenden Morrow also tallied on the advantage and Steve Ott added a short- handed score for the Stars, who have reeled off six straight wins away from home.
Kari Lehtonen was strong for the win with 35 saves.
Fernando Pisani and Tomas Kopecky scored for the Blackhawks, who lost for the fourth time in five games. Corey Crawford yielded three goals on 21 shots in defeat.
"I have to come up with big saves and I didn't do that tonight," Crawford said.
It was 3-2 for the Stars at the 10:46 mark of the third period as Ribeiro's shot from the right circle redirected off the knee of Hawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson and found the net inside the right post.
The Hawks were given a break late in regulation when Jamie Benn was sent off for high-sticking Duncan Keith in the face with 2:05 to go. Unfortunately, with Crawford pulled for an extra skater, Loui Eriksson knocked down a pass inside his own zone and fed to a streaking Ott who hit the empty net.
Dallas notched a pair of early power-play goals as Morrow lit the lamp just 2:40 into the contest on a stuffer at the right post and Ribeiro struck at 7:28 when he redirected a Brad Richards drive.
Pisani's wrister ticked off Lehtonen's glove and halved Chicago's deficit at 9:35 of the second, then Kopecky followed a little more than two minutes later.
Lehtonen was saved by his net over a minute later, as Viktor Stalberg roared in alone on a penalty shot, but clanged his backhander off the right post, crossbar and left post in rapid succession.
"We just work hard and believe in ourselves. This is certainly a huge win," Lehtonen said. "It's good to get two points."
