Chicago tops Blue Jackets in Columbus

Feb 2, 2011 - 4:30 AM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Jonathan Toews had a goal and two assists as the Chicago Blackhawks took a 7-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa both had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who had dropped their previous two games. Marty Turco made 29 saves for the win.

"We had some penalty troubles again late in the game," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville. "We got through it and our penalty killing did a good job. I thought both teams gave up higher quality shots than they would like."

Derek Dorsett notched a goal and a helper for the Blue Jackets, who have lost four of six. Steve Mason stopped just 17-of-22 shots and was pulled after the second period. Mathieu Garon goaltended the third and stopped 3-of-4 shots.

"Obviously with the number one power play coming to town we have to stay out of the box," said Dorsett. "When we get our opportunities, we have to capitalize, too. We have to be better at both areas. It's a disappointing loss."

Chicago trailed by one shortly into the second period, but scored the next four goals to take control.

The Blackhawks evened the game on Viktor Stalberg's eighth goal of the season, at the 4:52 mark, and moved in front about eight minutes later. Toews passed from behind the left side of the net to the front for a Kane one-timer.

In the period's final minute, Toews worked around a defender and snapped a shot from the right circle that got between Mason's pads for a shorthanded goal, making it a 5-3 game.

Dave Bolland notched his 11th goal of the season with eight minutes left in the third period, while Matt Calvert scored a minute and a half later to cut Columbus' deficit to two.

But Hossa scored a shorthanded, empty-net goal in the final moments to secure the win.

Columbus scored just 3:57 into the game. Dorsett had the puck behind the right side of the net and came out to the front, where he slipped a backhander home.

However, the Blackhawks notched the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead.

At the 9:10 mark, Nick Leddy blasted a rolling puck in the slot for his second career goal, and with 2:16 left in the period, Duncan Keith scored on the power play with a one-timer from the right circle.

Columbus tied the game 1:40 into the second, after Rick Nash worked the puck through the middle and fed it to the right side, where Derick Brassard swept it in.

Just 42 seconds later, Samuel Pahlsson scored to give the Blue Jackets a 3-2 lead.
