Stars hold on to edge Blues

Oct 14, 2011 - 4:58 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Loui Eriksson, Adam Burish and Brenden Morrow each scored a goal, as the Dallas Stars jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Kari Lehtonen, who did not play in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Chicago, stopped 36 shots for the Stars. He has stopped 113-of-117 shots so far this season.

"I've just been trying to keep going and so far so good," Lehtonen said.

Matt D'Agostini and Chris Stewart scored for the Blues, who got 21 saves from Jaroslav Halak.

Entering the game, St. Louis had allowed just 33 shots on the season thanks to a strong defensive effort. Against Dallas, the Blues held the advantage in shot disparity, but the Stars were able to capitalize on their opportunities.

Eriksson gave Dallas a 1-0 lead on a short-handed, breakaway backhand late in the first period before Burish and Morrow follow with scores for a 3-0 advantage.

Burish's goal came 7:06 into the second period. Trevor Daley took the puck into the St. Louis zone and hit Burish, who beat Halak with a one-time snap shot.

Late in the period, Morrow settled in front of the net and knocked home a deflected, power-play goal to give the Stars a decided lead, but the Blues would battle back.

Less than a minute later, St. Louis peppered Lehtonen in a scrum around the net and D'Agostini finally put home a rebound to make it a 3-1 game.

Stewart's goal -- a slap shot set up by Kevin Shattenkirk -- pulled the Blues within a goal, but they would get no closer, as Lehtonen continued his impressive start to the season.

"The second half of the second period I thought we got back to our game," Blues forward Alexander Steen said. "I thought the way we were playing we were going to be able to equalize the game."
