Sharks continue perfect road trip in Nashville

Oct 25, 2011 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks hope to stay unbeaten on their current six-game road trip and will pay a visit to the Nashville Predators tonight at Bridgestone Arena.

San Jose has defeated both New Jersey and Boston on the road swing after suffering three straight losses and is coming off Saturday's 4-2 triumph over the defending champion Bruins at TD Garden. Benn Ferriero scored the go-ahead goal 8:48 into the third period, while Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture also found the back of the net.

Ferriero was called up on Friday from the club's minor league affiliate in Worcester and was excited to be skating with some of the best in the game.

"I grew up watching Joe Thornton. Now I get to play with him," Ferriero said postgame. "Pretty cool to come in here and score the game-winner."

Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi made 37 saves to preserve the victory. San Jose will also take on the Red Wings, Islanders and Rangers on the trek.

Still in search of their first home win of the season, the Predators will open a three-game residency tonight versus San Jose, Tampa Bay and Anaheim.

Nashville went 1-2 on a recent three-game road trip and ended a four-game slide with Saturday's 2-0 blanking of the Calgary Flames. Pekka Rinne notched his 21st career shutout with 33 saves and both Niclas Bergfors and Sergei Kostitsyn registered goals for the Predators.

"Obviously this was a huge one," said Rinne, who tied the franchise's shutout record previously set by Tomas Vokoun. "Now it's nice to go back home and get ready to play again."

Rinne is only two wins away from 100 for his career. Kostitsyn has posted points in all but one game this season for a Nashville team that went 24-9-8 as the host a season ago. The Preds are 0-1-1 at home this season.

Nashville went 2-0-2 against the Sharks in 2010-11 to match its best record against the club in franchise history. San Jose has still won 11 of the past 16 meetings between the teams, but has lost 10 of the past 15 as the visitor in this series.
