Final
Fleury, Penguins blank Islanders
Oct 26, 2011 - 5:39 AM Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Marc-Andre Fleury turned away 33 shots to record his first shutout of the season, as the Pittsburgh Penguins earned a 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders in the opener of a home-and-home set at Nassau Coliseum."The guys in front of me did a good job blocking shots and taking rebounds away," said a humble Fleury.
Pascal Dupuis, Richard Park and Jordan Staal each had a goal for the Penguins, who have won four games in a row.
Evgeni Malkin recorded three shots in his return to the Pittsburgh lineup. He had missed the last five contests and seven of eight with a sore right knee -- the same one that the Russian forward had season-ending surgery on in February.
Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves for New York, which suffered its third straight loss.
"We still have to make some improvements," Islanders forward John Tavares said. "We have to find a way to put a few in the net."
Dupuis scored on a breakaway with 2:54 remaining in the first period, then Park, a former Islander, fired a shot off Nabokov's left shoulder 21 seconds into the middle frame.
Staal hit an empty net to seal the win with 2:00 minutes to play in the third.
