Jets try to string together consecutive wins vs. Lightning

Oct 29, 2011 - 2:15 PM (Sports Network) - Coming off a win in one of the wildest NHL games in recent memory, the Winnipeg Jets will try to claim back-to-back victories for the first time this season when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning for tonight's battle at St. Pete times Forum.

The Jets picked up their third win of the season -- and first on the road -- edging the Philadelphia Flyers, 9-8, in the league's highest-scoring game since San Jose beat Pittsburgh, 10-8, on Jan. 13, 1996.

Andrew Ladd was the ninth different Winnipeg player to score, tallying the go- ahead goal with 1:06 left in the third period to lift the Jets to their second win in three games.

It wasn't a pretty win, as Winnipeg blew a pair of four-goal leads in a game that saw both clubs score five straight times at one point.

"That wasn't necessarily the way we drew it up to win a game on the road, but we'll take it. We'll take the two points and just go from there," said Jets head coach Claude Noel.

Nik Antropov and Tanner Glass each had a goal and two assists for Winnipeg, which tied the franchise record for goals in a game. The Atlanta Thrashers also had nine goals against Carolina on Nov. 12, 2005.

Ondrej Pavelec allowed seven goals on 43 shots for Winnipeg, while Chris Mason stopped 4-of-5. Pavelec was pulled early in the third period, but he was forced to finish the game when Mason suffered a strained right groin.

Pavelec is expected to start tonight and Mason is questionable.

The Jets are 1-3-1 as the visiting team this year and are playing the second test of a season-high, seven-game road trip.

Tampa Bay has dominated the Jets franchise in recent seasons and the Lightning will aim for their 12th straight victory in this series tonight. The Bolts have also won six straight on home ice against Winnipeg.

The Lightning will try to get back on track tonight after having a three-game winning streak snapped Thursday in Nashville. Mike Fisher registered two goals and set up another, helping the Predators defeat Tampa, 5-3, for their first home win of the season.

Steven Stamkos tallied twice for Tampa Bay, giving him four goals on the season.

Mathieu Garon surrendered five goals on 17 shots before he was replaced by Dwayne Roloson, who finished with 10 saves in relief. Roloson, who came into this season as Tampa's clear No. 1 goaltender, hasn't started since allowing seven goals against Florida on Oct. 17, but he could get the call tonight.

Tampa Bay has a 2-1-0 record as the host this season after winning its last two at the Forum.
