Blackhawks, Canucks go at it in Chicago

Nov 6, 2011 - 3:50 PM (Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks hope to bounce back from a slugfest in Tampa Bay when they return home to take on the Vancouver Canucks this evening at the United Center.

Chicago dropped a 5-4 decision in overtime against the Lightning on Friday night and both teams tallied four goals in a busy second period. Patrick Sharp scored twice and both Dan Carcillo and Marian Hossa lit the lamp for Chicago, which is a solid 8-2-3 on the season and had a three-game winning streak come to an end.

"Anything can happen in overtime," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said.

Ray Emery allowed five goals on 32 shots, including four on 14 shots in the second period. Corey Crawford could be back in the crease Sunday and owns a 6-2-2 record this season.

The Central Division-leading Blackhawks opened their brief tour of Florida with a 3-2 shootout win Thursday against the Panthers. They will play three of their next five games in the Windy City.

Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith missed his second straight game due to a left hand injury, and is listed as questionable tonight. Patrick Kane owns seven points in his last three games and leads Chicago with 11 assists and 15 points in 13 games this season.

Vancouver will resume its six-game road trip tonight and dropped a 3-2 decision in St. Louis on Friday, as David Backes scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period to lead the hosts.

Alexandre Burrows and Ryan Kesler both scored for the defending Western Conference champion Canucks, who have lost two straight and four of six games. Roberto Luongo turned aside 25-of-28 shots in defeat.

"I feel like it was a good step forward and if we keep playing like this we're going to win a lot more games than we're going to lose," Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa said.

The Canucks were coming off a 5-1 loss at Minnesota and will also visit the Kings and Ducks on the trek. Vancouver defenseman Sami Salo (groin) missed the game and is questionable for Sunday. Burrows has two goals and an assist his last three games, and left in the second period with possible back spasms.

Vancouver scored 12 goals in back-to-back wins over Washington and Calgary, but have tallied just three goals during the current slide.

The Canucks needed seven games to dispose of the Blackhawks in the first round of last year's Western Conference Quarterfinals. Both teams split four matchups during the regular season.
