Biron, Rangers blank Jets

Nov 7, 2011 - 6:02 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Martin Biron made 23 saves to record his first shutout in a Rangers uniform, as New York took down the Winnipeg Jets, 3-0.

Marian Gaborik had two goals and an assist for the Rangers, who went 4-1-1 on a six-game homestand. Derek Stepan had a goal and an assist.

"We showed some resilience, some battle and some heart," Biron said. "You lose a couple of tough ones (the first two games) and then come back with four big wins. Being able to do it the way we have: playing solid defensively; special teams picking it up for us; being able to use a lot of guys today -- we used pretty much everyone and really tried to help out in every aspect."

Ondrej Pavelec made 24 saves for the Jets, who have lost two in a row.

"Game by game we're getting better, so that's a good sign," Jets forward Chris Thorburn said.

Following a scoreless first period, the Rangers got on the board at the 10:01 mark of the middle stanza. Gaborik gathered the puck at the right circle and made a nice cross-ice pass to Stepan, whose wrister beat Pavelec.

Gaborik lit the lamp at the 8:31 mark of the third period to make it 2-0. Stepan led a 2-on-1 rush down the left side of the ice before sliding a pass over to Gaborik, who found the back of the net.

Gaborik added an empty-net goal in the final seconds to account for the final margin.
