Senators hope to stay on winning track vs. Flames

Nov 15, 2011 - 3:49 PM (Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators were able to halt a season-worst five- game losing streak the last time out and will go for back-to-back wins Tuesday against the Calgary Flames in the continuation of a six-game road trip.

Ottawa opened the month of November with five straight losses after closing out October on a six-game winning streak. It began this lengthy trek with a 5-1 loss at Buffalo before rebounding with Saturday's 5-2 victory in Toronto thanks to a pair of goals from Nick Foligno.

Zack Smith had a goal and an assist, while Sergei Gonchar and Chris Phillips lit the lamp for the Senators, who got 31 saves from Craig Anderson.

"We just needed to get out of our little slump that we were in," Anderson said. "It's a good start, something to build off of. You've just got to move forward and continue with the positive things."

The Senators are also scheduled to visit Edmonton, Vancouver and Pittsburgh on the current road swing, and are 3-5-0 as the guest this season.

Calgary ended a two-game slide with a 4-3 win at Colorado on Saturday, as Lee Stempniak recorded a goal and an assist to lead the way, The Flames, who stormed out to a 4-0 lead and survived a 16-4 shot differential in the final period, also got goals from Paul Byron, Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 36 saves for the Flames, who will host Chicago on this modest homestand and own a 3-4-1 ledger at the Saddledome. Calgary has beaten the Avalanche eight straight times. Jay Bouwmeester notched his 200th career assist on Iginla's goal.

David Moss played in his 300th NHL game, all with the Flames.

Calgary swept a two-game series with Ottawa a year ago and has won three straight and eight of the last nine matchups between the clubs.

The Senators are winless in their last five trips to the Saddledome. They are 4-10 with a tie in their last 15 contests as the visitor in this series.
