Butler helps Sens dish out win over Flames

Nov 16, 2011 - 6:00 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Bobby Butler had a pair of third period goals to help the Ottawa Senators to a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

Daniel Alfredsson scored the other goal while Craig Anderson stopped 38 shots for the Senators, who have won two in a row after dropping five straight.

"Craig Anderson was solid in our net and gave us a lot of confidence," Senators head coach Paul MacLean said. "I thought the team as a whole played real good."

Tom Kostopoulos scored the only goal for the Flames, who have lost three of four. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped just 29 shots in defeat.

The first period went scoreless and the second appeared to be headed that way, but a broken play at the left point in the Calgary end saw Nick Foligno get the puck and feed Alfredsson, who roofed a shot from the slot with 1:16 left in the second.

Calgary, though, tied it just over a minute later when Matt Stajan's pass from the deep right boards hit off the stick of Kostopoulos in front and went in.

Ottawa, though, took a 2-1 lead halfway through the third as Butler flew into the zone, dragged the puck past the stick of a defender at the right circle and snapped a shot into the right corner.

Butler added some insurance six minutes later when his slapper from the right circle squeezed inside the low left post.

"I thought tonight we had some better looks on the power play," Flames head coach Brent Sutter said. "Nothing comes easy and they have to work through it. It is what it is, and we have to find a way to get through this."

It was the first two goals of the season for Butler...Ottawa plays in Edmonton on Thursday...Calgary hosts Chicago on Friday...Coming into the game, Calgary had won three straight and eight of nine against Ottawa.
