Bruins edge Blue Jackets in shootout for 7th straight win

Nov 18, 2011 - 3:18 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - David Krejci scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout, and the Boston Bruins completed a perfect five-game homestand with a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at TD Garden.

Both teams killed a penalty in overtime to send the game to a shootout, where Krejci fired a wrister past the left pad of Columbus goalie Curtis Sanford. Tuukka Rask then turned away Antoine Vermette to secure Boston's seventh straight victory.

Adam McQuaid scored in regulation for the Bruins, who swept a homestand of five games or more for the first time since going 5-0-0 from November 29- December 11, 1986. Rask made 30 saves.

"Tuukka's been great for us throughout the year and again tonight," said Boston forward Patrice Bergeron.

Derek MacKenzie tallied for Columbus, which picked up its first point on the road this season (0-7-1). The Blue Jackets are 0-10-3 away from home since a 5-4 overtime win at Minnesota on March 19.

"We did a lot of really good things out there. I'm proud of the way the guys battled," said Columbus head coach Scott Arniel.

Sanford, who last started an NHL game for Vancouver on January 10, 2009 against San Jose, stopped 26 shots.

The best save of a scoreless first period wasn't made by either Rask or Sanford. Rather, the stop belonged to Columbus defenseman Marc Methot six minutes in.

Boston's Milan Lucic stared at an open target after accepting a pass from Krejci. Methot, though, went down onto one knee and denied the forward's bid from just outside the crease.

Sanford was the beneficiary of more help later in the frame when Benoit Pouliot snapped a shot off the crossbar.

Columbus went on the power play when Gregory Campbell clipped R.J. Umberger with a high stick 50 seconds into the second period. For nearly the entire two minutes, the Blue Jackets' unit looked inept. But the visitors opened the scoring on a deflection in the slot by MacKenzie with one second left on the power play.

McQuaid drew the Bruins even 1:35 later with a shot from the right point that hit a Columbus player in front.

Game Notes

Sanford was recently activated off injured reserve after missing time with a lower-body injury sustained during practice on October 17. He made three saves in relief of Steve Mason at Minnesota on October 8, his only other appearance for Columbus this season...Boston forward Daniel Paille returned to the lineup after sitting out the previous three games following surgery to repair a broken nose suffered when struck by a puck...MacKenzie scored his first career power-play goal.
