Backstrom guides Wild in shutout of Avs

Nov 18, 2011 - 4:39 AM St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Devin Setoguchi scored the game's only goal late in the third period, and the Northwest Division-leading Minnesota Wild blanked the Colorado Avalanche, 1-0, at Xcel Energy Center.

Niklas Backstrom made 27 saves to post his second shutout of the season and 24th of his career.

"I don't think anyone felt they were generating a lot of chances tonight," Setoguchi said.

The Wild opened a six-game homestand by notching their third straight win. Minnesota is 8-2-0 in its last 10 contests.

Colorado, meanwhile, has dropped seven of eight. The Avalanche have suffered five consecutive defeats as the visiting team after beginning the season by winning their first six road games.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 17 saves in defeat.

"As the game went on, you knew that it was going to be a bounce that would win the game," Giguere said.

On the lone tally, Dany Heatley tried to take a shot from above the left circle. The puck caromed to Setoguchi off an Avalanche player's skate and he fired a shot past Giguere with 2:31 remaining.
