Flyers and Hurricanes clash in Philly

Nov 21, 2011 - 3:54 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers are getting quite familiar with the Carolina Hurricanes and will face them for the third time in three weeks tonight from Wells Fargo Center.

Philadelphia took the first matchup, 5-1, on Oct. 29 on home ice before handing the Hurricanes a 5-3 loss down in Raleigh last Monday. The Flyers have won 11 of 12 and are 17-1-3 in the last 21 matchups with Carolina, which is winless in six straight trips to south Philly.

Carolina is 4-16-2 in the past 22 games at Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers were cruising until a 6-4 loss at Winnipeg on Saturday. Scott Hartnell had two goals and an assist and rookie Matt Read notched two goals for the Flyers, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Sergei Bobrovsky allowed five goals on 39 shots.

"We let them skate around and do what they wanted to do, and that's going to be the result in the first 10 minutes," said Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger, who needs two points for 700 in his career.

Philadelphia had won six of eight overall before losing to the Jets and will now try to extend their home winning streak to three games. It is 5-3-2 as the host this season and sits tied with Pittsburgh atop the Atlantic Division with 25 points.

Read owns a rookie-best eight goals on the season and has scored goals in four straight contests with six points (5g, 1a) in that span. Jakub Voracek is on a five-game scoring streak and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov may get the call tonight for the Flyers. He is 5-0-1 record in six starts with a 1.66 GAA and a .944 save percentage since his appearance against the Jets on Oct. 27.

Carolina has posted an 0-5-1 mark in its last six road games and is only 2-6-2 as the visitor this season. It is coming off a rare 3-2 win versus Toronto on Sunday in which Jeff Skinner netted the game-winning goal with just under seven minutes left in regulation.

"Last time out we played a good game. In this one we came out with the same lines and we did a good job of getting pucks out and into the offensive zone," Skinner said. "There's always pressure, especially to win, but you put the most pressure on yourself. It's not fun when you lose, but it's important to go out there and have fun."

Jay Harrison and Jussi Jokinen had a goal apiece and Cam Ward stopped 23 shots in net for Carolina, which ended a three-game slide and won for the fourth time in 15 tries. The Canes recently recalled forward Brett Sutter from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League and sent forwards Zach Boychuk and Zac Dalpe to the minors.
