Smith, Senators top Jets 6-4

Nov 30, 2011 - 6:21 AM Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Zack Smith scored the game-winner late in the third period to lift the Senators over the Jets, 6-4, in a game that featured four lead changes.

Smith and Milan Michalek both had two goals for Ottawa, while Jason Spezza and Nick Foligno also lit the lamp in the club's second straight win. Craig Anderson gave up four goals on 43 shots to earn the victory.

Ondrej Pavelec yielded five goals on 33 shots for Winnipeg, which has dropped three of four.

Evander Kane scored twice in the first 2:41 of the third period to give the Jets a 4-3 lead. First, Kane cleaned up Zach Bogosian's shot off the post at 1:24, then tacked on his 12th goal of the season with Foligno in the penalty box for tripping.

Spezza tied it near the midway point with a blistering wrister from the left circle that caromed off the post.

Winnipeg defenseman Johnny Oduya was whistled for hooking at 13:05, and Smith capitalized on the man advantage 40 seconds later by skating unabated above the circles and wristing one through traffic.

Foligno's empty-netter with 1:08 showing sealed the see-saw battle.

"We had an opportunity to kick off a good homestand and we let it slip away at the end," Kane said, referring to the club hosting 11 of its next 12 games.

Michalek beat Pavelec on the glove side with 4:05 remaining in the opening period, but Winnipeg answered with two goals in the second.

Bryan Little fed a backhand to Blake Wheeler on the right doorstep at 7:06, then Alexander Burmistrov banked in a shot off Anderson at 15:07.

Just 35 seconds later, Smith snapped in a goal out front after the puck unexpectedly squirted out from the left goal line. With 44 seconds remaining in the stanza, Michalek re-directed Chris Phillips' wrister from the right point to put the Senators back in front.
