Final
Jets top Avalanche
Dec 28, 2011 - 5:06 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Evander Kane scored twice to lead Winnipeg over Colorado, 4-1, at Pepsi Center.Tim Stapleton and Jim Slater added tallies for the Jets, who have taken eight of their last 12 outings.
Ondrej Pavelec made 32 saves en route to his 13th win of the season.
"This is a tough place to play, especially with a few days off in between," said Pavelec of Winnipeg's four-day break following a home loss to Pittsburgh. "That first goal was huge, and our power play came through. A good two points."
Kevin Porter picked up a late goal for the Avalanche, who saw their eight-game home winning streak snapped.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere was tagged in defeat for all four goals on 26 shots.
Kane put the Jets on the board with 3:23 to play in the opening period with his first score in eight games. He flew down the left wing during a 2-on-1 break, faked a pass to Blake Wheeler before ripping one by Giguere
Stapleton's power-play tally at 1:21 of the second made it 2-0 and Kane struck again as the clock ticked towards the 15-minute mark of the stanza.
The young forward broke in alone on Giguere, but pushed his shot into the veteran's pads and the rebound moved into the right corner. Chris Thorburn gained control behind the Colorado net and fed back in front where Kane tipped it home.
Slater put Winnipeg up by a 4-0 margin at 3:41 of the third period, pouncing on a loose puck in the crease created when Giguere's failed clear caromed off the body of Andrew Ladd.
Porter spoiled Pavelec's shutout bid with 5:12 to play by tipping in a shot from David Van Der Gulik.
"I felt tonight that we gave them all four goals. They were all from breakdowns that we can correct," Giguere said. "We're aware of what we're doing and since we haven't practiced for a while, we have to make the corrections then."
