Horton, Bruins beat Jets 5-3
Jan 11, 2012 - 6:31 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Nathan Horton scored twice as the Boston Bruins took a 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets.Tyler Seguin, Shawn Thornton and Benoit Pouliot also had goals for the Bruins, who were coming off a loss to Vancouver on Saturday. Tuukka Rask gave up three goals on 32 shots.
"We were fortunate to come out on top tonight," said Boston head coach Claude Julien. "We were kind of slot coming out the gates and allowed them to get some easy ones there."
Andrew Ladd, Eric Fehr and Blake Wheeler all scored for the Jets, who have dropped three of four. Ondrej Pavelec was tagged for all five goals on 42 shots.
Trailing by a goal, it took just eight seconds from the start of the third for Boston to tie it as David Krejci's turnaround pass from the left circle to the front saw Horton there for the easy tap in and a 3-3 game.
Less than three minutes later, the Bruins made it 4-3 as Seguin received a pass behind the defense and went down the right wing before cutting to the front and lifting a backhander high.
Skating on the power play, Boston got an insurance goal at the 6:41 mark. Patrice Bergeron sent a pass from the left circle to the low right side for Pouliot, whose first shot went off the left post. But he got his stick on the second chance for his eighth goal of the season.
Chris Thorburn had a chance to give the Jets an early lead when he was awarded a penatly shot 5:57 in, but his backhand was stopped by Rask.
The Jets did take a 1-0 lead, though, with 3:07 to play in the first as a Zach Bogosian right point shot was deflected in by Ladd.
However, the Bruins scored with 39.4 seconds left in the first as Milan Lucic sent a pass from the left to the right where Horton redirected it in.
The Jets took a 2-1 lead just 31 seconds into the second when Tobias Enstrom's left point wrister was redirected in by Wheeler, but the Bruins tied it five minutes later as Thornton was given a penalty shot and was successful on his backhander.
Winnipeg took a 3-2 lead into the third period as Fehr's simple wrister from the left circle hit off the stick of Joe Corvo, then his skate with 8:49 left in the second.

Boston hosts Montreal on Thursday...Winnipeg hosts San Jose on Thursday...Boston has taken two of three from Winnipeg this season...Winnipeg was 0-for-4 on the power play while Boston went 1-for-3.
