Red Wings top Stars in SO

Jan 18, 2012 - 6:21 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Jiri Hudler scored the game-winning goal in the second round of the shootout, sending the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.

Hudler moved in slowly, deked backhand-forehand, then went back to his backhand and slid the puck past Richard Bachman, who was sliding the other way.

Ty Conklin stopped the first two shootout attempts, and Trevor Daley fired the puck wide of the net on Dallas' last shot to seal the victory for the Red Wings.

"I felt good throughout the game," Conklin said. "There were a couple of deflection goals, but they aren't goals that I'm going to lose sleep over. I felt solid for most of the game."

Hudler and Tomas Holmstrom scored in regulation, while Conklin stopped 25- of-27 shots in the victory for Detroit, which has won four consecutive games.

Brenden Morrow and Loui Eriksson scored in regulation and Bachman made 30 saves in defeat for the Stars, who have lost three straight games -- all by a one-goal margin.

Detroit grabbed the lead at 6:41 of the first period when Bachman came out of his net to play a loose puck, but it caromed out to the slot where Holmstrom was waiting for it and he fired a quick slap shot past the Stars' netminder.

Dallas answered with a power-play goal at 10:59 of the opening stanza when Alex Goligoski ripped a slap shot from the high slot that was deflected past Conklin from in front by Morrow to knot the game at one.

The Stars took a 2-1 lead with 3:32 left in the opening frame when Sheldon Souray ripped a shot from the left point that was stopped by Conklin, but Eriksson was parked in front and just got enough of the loose puck on the rebound, allowing it trickle over the goal line.

Detroit came back to knot the game at two just 1:43 into the third period when Hudler accepted a nice feed from Valtteri Filppula and backhanded it past Bachman from the slot.

"We knew it was going to be a tight third period," Bachman said. "I just wanted to do whatever I could to give the team a chance to win. I would have liked to have seen things go the other way, but I thought the guys worked hard tonight."

Game Notes

Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom played in his 1,540th NHL game, tying him with Bruins legend Johnny Bucyk for 11th in NHL history...With his goal on Tuesday, Morrow is now one point shy of tying Jere Lehtinen for eighth place on the Stars' franchise scoring list...Dallas went 1-for-2 with the man advantage, while Detroit failed to convert on four power play opportunities...The Stars will host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, while Detroit visit the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.
