Chicago sends Sabres to another road loss
Jan 19, 2012 - 5:32 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jonathan Toews scored twice to help the Chicago Blackhawks down the struggling Buffalo Sabres, 6-2.Dave Bolland, Andrew Shaw and Jimmy Hayes each had a goal and an assist while Marian Hossa also scored for the Blackhawks, who have won four of five. Corey Crawford allowed two goals on 27 shots.
"Part of our identity as a team is to bring it every single night," said Toews. "We play as a team and try to find a way to win every game."
Jason Pominville had both goals for the road-weary Sabres, who have dropped 10 straight games as the visitors. Jhonas Enroth gave up six goals on 35 shots in defeat.
"It just seemed like they were playing better and with confidence once they got that lead," said Pominville. "For us, it was the other way, we fell behind and it took the life out of us."
The first goal of the game went to Buffalo as Pominville took a pass down the right wing and from the circle fired a wrister past Crawford at the 9:30 mark of the first.
Chicago, though, tied the game with just over seven minutes to play when Duncan Keith blasted a shot on net from the right point that saw Shaw bang home the rebound.
Just under three minutes later, the Blackhawks took the lead on the power play with a similar goal as Brent Seabrook's shot from the high slot was stopped and Toews was there to snap home the rebound.
Pominville tied the game on the power play 3:28 into the second. A nice passing play saw Tyler Myers send the puck from the right point to the slot where Brad Boyes immediately whipped it over for a one-timer by Pominville.
Chicago took the lead back for good just over two minutes later when Keith picked off a bad Buffalo pass in his own zone and sprung Hossa, who skated in alone and buried his chance.
It was a 4-2 game with 6:35 to play in the second as a pass from Andrew Brunette at the left wing went to the right side where Hayes one-timed it home.
Goals from Bolland and Toews 2:37 apart early in the third gave Chicago a four-goal cushion.
Crawford stopped all nine shots he faced in the third to keep Buffalo from mounting a comeback.
