Seidenberg lifts Bruins over Sens
Feb 1, 2012 - 5:55 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Dennis Seidenberg's slapper from center ice near the midway point of the third period lifted the Boston Bruins over the Ottawa Senators, 4-3.Zdeno Chara, Seidenberg and Milan Lucic all had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who started a three-game homestand on Tuesday. Brad Marchand also lit the lamp.
Tim Thomas made 30 saves for the victors.
"It's always nice to get back on a winning note," Thomas said. "Hopefully the good feeling from the win will carry over."
Colin Greening, Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson scored for the Senators, who lost the final four games of a six-game road trip. Craig Anderson stopped 26- of-30 shots.
Trailing by two, 3-1, Boston started its comeback with 44.6 seconds left in the middle stanza. Lucic's shot from the slot got past Anderson.
Marchand's power-play goal made it a 3-3 game at the 2:20 mark of the third period. Joe Corvo's blast from the right point was stopped by Anderson, but a battle for the rebound followed. Marchand managed to put the puck into the net with a defender all over him.
At the 7:09 mark, Seidenberg fired a shot on net from center ice. The low shot eluded Anderson to the stick side for a 4-3 Boston lead.
Thomas made seven saves in the final frame.
Chara's power-play goal put the Bruins ahead 1-0 at the 11:57 mark of the first period. Coming off a record-setting 108.8 mph slapper in the NHL SuperSkills competition on Saturday, Chara fired a shot on net from the left point that beat traffic in front and got past Anderson.
Ottawa tied the game with just 1:20 left in the opening frame. Milan Michalek's shot/pass from the right circle was redirected into the net by Greening.
Turris gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at the 7:43 mark of the middle stanza. Daniel Alfredsson led a 3-on-2 rush down the right side of the ice before making a cross-ice pass to Turris, whose wrister beat Thomas.
The Senators made it three unanswered goals with 6:32 to go. Chris Neil gathered the puck in the neutral zone and led a 2-on-1 rush into the Boston zone. Karlsson took a pass from Neil and fired a snap shot past Thomas.
"We scored three 5-on-5 goals against a really good defensive team. Five-on- five we were the better team, so it's frustrating to lose this one," said Alfredsson. "I don't know how we don't win it."
