Rangers edge Sabres 1-0 in shootout

Feb 2, 2012 - 5:32 AM Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Ryan Callahan buried a wrister in the fifth round of the shootout as the New York Rangers took a 1-0 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.

The entire 65 minutes of regulation and overtime passed without a goal, giving both goaltenders shutouts.

Marian Gaborik banged a shot in off the left post on New York's first try in the shootout, but Jason Pominville buried a wrister to the right side on Buffalo's third attempt.

After Henrik Lundqvist made a poke check on Ville Leino's attempt, Callahan snapped his attempt past Ryan Miller for the victory.

Lundqvist posted his sixth shutout of the season and 41st of his career thanks to 34 saves as the Rangers bounced back from a shootout loss in New Jersey on Tuesday.

"I could tell halfway through the first (period) that Miller was playing really well, and I knew I had to be focused and make good decisions out there," said Lundqvist. "It was a fun game, lots of back and forth action. And I am really happy we got the win."

Miller also got a shutout, his second of the year and 24th of his career, after stopping 29 shots, but also took the loss as Buffalo had a two-game winning streak stopped.

"It was a good game and we played some tight defense," said Miller. "But it's really hard to beat that guy (Lundqvist) over on the other side and he showed why tonight."

New York had to kill off five power plays in the game, including a minor on Michael Del Zotto late in the third that spilled over to the overtime.

Buffalo killed two New York power plays, including a full two minutes in the overtime when Tyler Ennis was called for boarding.
