Rolling Canucks hit the road to battle Oilers

Feb 19, 2012 - 3:34 PM (Sports Network) - Following a perfect homestand, the Vancouver Canucks now hit the road for six in a row looking to extend a 12-game point streak as they visit the Edmonton Oilers.

The Canucks potted 11 goals in winning all three games of a recent residency, capping the stand with a 6-2 triumph over the Maple Leafs on Saturday night. The Sedin brothers combined for eight points, with Daniel logging a goal and three assists and Henrik setting up four goals to increase his league-leading assist total to 50.

Alexandre Burrows had a pair of goals, Manny Malhotra, Sami Salo and Kevin Bieksa all scored as well, and Roberto Luongo ended with 24 saves. Vancouver improved to 9-0-3 in its last 12 games and hasn't lost in regulation since Jan. 15.

"It was a great team effort tonight," said Luongo. "From the start, we really set a good tempo and were working hard on both sides of the puck. We really played a great 60 minutes I thought."

Not only do the Canucks have a comfortable 15-point advantage over the second- place Flames in the Northwest Division, but they pulled within two points of the Red Wings for the most in the NHL.

Edmonton sits on the other side of things, 14th out of 15 teams in the West with 50 points. That is eight behind the 13th-place Ducks and 15 back of a playoff spot.

The Oilers have lost four of five and are coming off Friday's 3-1 defeat to the visiting Avalanche. Ryan Jones snapped a 22-game goal drought with Edmonton's lone goal, while Devan Dubnyk made 20 saves.

"We need to just keep pushing forward and learn from tonight," Oilers forward Sam Gagner said.

Edmonton was without its head coach in Tom Renney, who missed the game with post-concussion symptoms after getting hit in the head with a puck during practice back on Feb. 6. Associate coach Ralph Krueger took on a bigger role in Renney's absence.

The Oilers also remain without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins due to a sprained shoulder, while Corey Potter is questionable with a groin issue. Theo Peckham is also close to returning from a facial injury and could be on the ice tonight.

The Canucks have won three of four over the Oilers so far this year, giving them a victory in seven of the past 10 encounters. They have lost two of their last three in Edmonton.

These two Northwest Division residents don't wrap their season series until the final day of the regular season on April 7.
